A New Command

So, we are talking about love a whole lot at Four Hills these days. We have come to the conclusion that love is where its at when it comes to the Christian walk. Yesterday, we looked at John 13 for an interesting thing about love.

In verse 34, Jesus says, “A new command I give to you. Love one another.”

He goes on to offer His reasoning, like the world recognizing us by our love. But, I am having a tough time with those first words.

A new command? Why must Jesus “command” us to love each other? The answer is obvious.

We don’t love by nature.

Our nature is to love specific persons, usually those that are nice to us…or attractive to us…or meet any number of criteria. But Jesus commands that we love “one another”.

It would appear “one another” means people I would not love if left to my own decisions. Otherwise, why the need for a “command”?

So, today I am looking for some unloveable people to love. If you would like to volunteer, I got you covered. You see, if I love unloveable people…

…maybe someone will love me in return. Everyone assumes that the unloveable is someone else, but…it could be me…never know…

Here’s to some good lovin’ this week!
