Preparing To Be A Good Neighbor

I have been reading the parable of the Good Samaritan this week. I will be teaching about it on Sunday at a service where we are all trying to bring a neighbor or friend with us. It is important that this Sunday not suck.

So, as I am reading and studying, I am praying for the chance to be a good neighbor, just like that Samaritan.

Woe. God wastes no time.

Suddenly, life is filled with people in need…or in trouble…or just hurting. It seems as if God said, “You want to help your neighbor? Well, here you go!” Then He poured calamity across the earth and asked me to lend a hand.

But, that isn’t actually true. The truth is, when I decide to be a good neighbor, my eyes become opened to the hurting world around me. They were always there. I just closed my eyes and ignored them before.

If we decide to be the helping hands that God wants us to be, He will likely send more people in need to cross our paths. He will send the needy, injured, and destitute right to our doorstep.

When God sends the needy our way, it is not to test us, but because He trusts us.

This whole neighbor thing is easier if we all get involved. Help me help others. Join the “Be a Good Neighbor” movement. It has a wonderful history, started by a Jewish carpenter thousands of years ago.

We will be better neighbors than State Farm. (discount double check)
