For some reason, I cannot seem to sleep anymore. My eyes open an hour or so prior to my alarm going off, so I lay and stare at the clock, counting down the minutes. It can get frustrating.
Sadly, even when I get up, I do not truly know what to do with all of this extra time. I have been given advice from various outlets and thought I would share it with you.
The Spiritual Approach – Some have suggested that my early waking could be the Holy Spirit prompting me to pray. I have done some praying in the mornings. But, if I can be honest with you, I am always praying. To me, prayer is not a selected moment when I bow a knee and say a mantra, but an ongoing conversation throughout every waking moment. So…yes, I do pray during that time, but it’s not what you think.
The Healthy Breakfast Approach – It would appear that I now have time for the first meal of the day. But, I don’t care for breakfast. I like brinner (breakfast for dinner). Eating breakfast before noon is a waste of a good brinner.
The Workout Approach – I have strongly considered this. I am training to run in the Derby Festival Mini Marathon (13 miles), so the extra workout time would be handy. But…I have this phobia about YMCA showers. Getting ready for work with naked 8 year olds running around from the swimming lessons does not seem like fun to me. I realize that early morning hours would preclude the chances of this happening, but I can’t get it out of my head.
The Make Out With Stacy Approach – Yeah, I tried this once. Turns out, spouses do not appreciate you waking them up just because you cannot sleep.
The Watch TV In Bed Approach – See the Make Out Approach. Same results…with more throwing of items.
The Extra Time In The Bathroom Approach – This is the one I am going with for the moment. I relax, enjoy long showers, stalk Facebook friends, and read the Bible…all during my extended getting ready time. I wonder how high my water bill is going to be.
So, if you have any additional suggestions, I am open to them. I have even tried staying up later to force me to sleep, but no luck.
Help me figure out what to do with the early morning hours.
Could you go to work early and thus get off earlier?
That would be awesome. Unfortunately, I have to work until 5 no matter when I arrive. Bummer.
You could start running in the neighborhood. You have a nice area to run.
